Half-Diminished 7th Chord. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Sometimes called a Minor 7 Flat 5th, this unusual chord is just like the Diminshed 7th chord, except the "7th" is 1/2 step higher. There are 4 places that I can think of where this chord makes an appearance. Are there any others? 1. Song: Hallelujah (What a Day) Location: The "jah" in the 1st "Hallelujah". (Also, the "Ha" in the 2nd "Hallelujah".) CD Time: [where's my cd??] 2. Song: Castle's Call (Master/Musician) Location: The 2nd to last chord before each pause. CD Time: 0:06, 0:08, ... 3. Song: Happy (Play Thru Me) Location: The 4th chord CD Time: 0:01, ... 4. Song: In the Light of Common Day (Beyond Nature) Location: The very last chord in a 6-chord upward sequence, just before the chorus (loud strumming). CD Time: 3:14 How To Play It -------------- The Half Diminished 7th uses the same "trapezoid-shaped" finger-formation as the regular Diminished 7th chord, only it's played on the middle 4 strings instead of the highest 4 strings: X X B halfdim* 7 =========== | | | | | | ----------- | O | O | | ----------- | | O | O | ----------- * The actual symbol is a small circle with a slash through it.
